Cherie Jimmy
Baker City, 1954-2012
Cherie Lynn Lissman Jimmy, 58, died Sept. 14, 2012, in Portland at the OHSU Hospital with her family around her.
There will be a celebration of her life at 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of the Nazarene, 1250 Hughes Lane.
“Cherie was a strong and caring woman who after years of fighting her multiple health conditions finally succumbed to her ailments and will no longer suffer,” family members said.
She was born on Aug. 24, 1954, at Nyssa to James and Betty Lissman. She was the oldest of five children. At the age of 6 she moved with her family to Baker City where she was raised. She was a 1972 Baker High School graduate.
After attending Eastern Oregon University at La Grande, she married Gerald Griffith. They had two sons: Justin Wayne Griffith and Eric Samuel Griffith.
She raised her boys in La Grande with her second husband, the love of her life, Billy W. Jimmy.
“She was an incredible mom and she loved life, family, friends and following her boys in all their sport and music activities,” family members said.
Cherie also loved her extended family and attended many of her nieces’ and nephews’ sporting events and activities.
She was often found crocheting baby blankets and pet sweaters for those she loved. Many of her son’s friends considered her their second mom.
She also was loved by many students at EOU and PSU where she worked in the admitting, education, nursing and agricultural departments.
She guided and encouraged those students as if they were her own. She will be greatly missed, her family said.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Jimmy of La Grande; her two sons, Eric Griffith, and Justin Griffith and his wife, Doyle, and baby daughter, Linda, of San Diego; her parents, Jim and Betty Lissman of Baker City; her siblings, Charles Lissman, and his wife, Sandra, of Boring, Barbara Baller, and her husband, Dennis, of Willamina, Lorin Lissman, and his wife, Sue, of Wasco and Sam Sullivan, and her husband, Mike, of Baker City; and 13 nieces and nephews.
