BEND – John Partin, 70, of Bend, formerly of Prairie City, died Sept. 3 after a battle with cancer. A funeral service will be at noon, Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Old Stone Church, 157 N.W. Franklin, Bend. Viewing will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m., and a reception will follow the funeral. Interment will be private, at Pilot Butte Cemetery. Mr. Partin was born April 24, 1944, in Prairie City, to Jack C. Partin and Mertie Mae (Partin) Lazor. He spent his young years helping maintain his grandparents’ horse and cattle ranch in Redmond. He attended Redmond High School. An honor graduate from the U.S. Army NCO Academy, he spent three years with the Army, serving mostly overseas and in Advanced Weapons Command in the fields of communications of movement and deployment of nuclear weapons. For his exceptional efforts while serving in Germany, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, and received the title, “Expertman.” He also played two seasons of football for the U.S. Army team. He was self-employed most of his life. Since 1973, he developed a significant amount of commercial and industrial real estate. In 1992, he established Advanced Steel Systems Inc., serving as general manager and president until his death. He was also a managing partner for Pasco Pacific LLC, specializing in commercial and industrial real estate development. Prior to 1973, he worked in sales, marketing and management. He worked for the Victor Business Machine Company and Lincoln Financial Group, spending 13 years in radio advertising management and overseeing the start-up of two radio stations. As an employer, he offered work to those in need, providing the opportunity and dignity of earning an honest wage. He spent countless hours contributing time, funds and energy to various organizations in the Bend-Redmond area. He served as chairman of the Deschutes County Planning Commission and was appointed by the Oregon Bar Association to serve as layperson for the Bar’s disciplinary proceedings. Outside of work, his interests included fishing, big game hunting, football, cooking, gardening and golf. Survivors include his brothers, Greg A. Partin of Madras and Marcus K. Partin of Redmond. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Charles Cancer Center or the Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements are under the care of Baird Funeral Home, 2425 N.E.
