Jack L.
Jack L. Love Sr. passed away on August 5th 2014 of complications from surgery in the loving arms of his son Michael in Pasco, WA. Jack was born on October 2, 1936 in Tulsa, OK to Homer C. Love and Berna A (Kahler) Love. At the age of two, the family moved to Baker, OR and they later settled in a home in Washington Gulch where he spent most of his childhood with his two brothers and sister.
Jack attended schools in Baker County however prior to graduating from Baker High in 1954 he joined the Army with his older brother in 1953. After leaving the Army in 1956 he settled back in Baker where he met his future wife, Ruby Carter whom he married in 1958. With their union came their three children Jack Jr, Michael and Teresa.
In 1964 he joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church and decided to serve his God by becoming a minister. The family moved to College Place, WA and he went to college at Walla Walla College where he graduated with a major in Theology and minored in history. He pastored churches in Pendleton OR, Yakima WA, Cashmere WA, Sandpoint ID and New York City.
After leaving the ministry he then went on to obtain his Masters of Science in Family Counseling at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. He then moved to Dayton, WA and became the assistant director of mental health for Columbia County which he continued to do until his retirement in 2001. He enjoyed his retirement years in Walla Walla, WA before moving to Burbank, WA to live with his son Michael.
His greatest loves were his children and grandchildren, reading and anything military.
He is survived by his sons Jack, Jr (Patti) of Livingston, NY and Michael of Burbank, WA. His daughter Teresa Baxter (Glen) of Bend, OR. His sister Barbara Bauder of Spokane, WA and brother Phillip Love of Kennewick, WA. Grandchildren Becky and Ben Love of Livingston, NY and FC2 Jordan Baxter (USN) of Yokosuka, Japan. Step grandchildren Casey Baxter and Angela Slothower and their families. His loving ex-wife Ruby Hohensee along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Berna Love and his older brother Harold C. Love.
Services will be held on August 16th, 2014 at 2 pm at Mueller’s Chapel of the Falls, 314 W 1st Ave., Kennewick, WA.
