Lyle Benjamin
Lyle Benjamin Rager, 95, formerly of Halfway, Ore., died August 11, 2014 at Settler’s Park in Baker City. Lyle was born May 23, 1919 in Marple, Neb., to Charles and Ruth Rager. Born the sixth of seven children, Lyle was the last surviving child.
The family migrated to Oregon in 1935 during the Great Depression. Lyle and older brother Harold rode on freight trains to Baker County with Sparta as their destination. Four months later the rest of the family followed.
During World War II, Lyle was sworn in to the Navy in January 1942. He served in the Aleutian Islands and the South Pacific Theatre. During the war, he married Dorothy Hensley on April 17, 1943. They had two sons, Mike and Tom.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy; son Mike and wife Carol of Tigard, Ore.; son Tom and wife Ginny of Cove, Ore.; six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
