Jacqueline Cole Piatt (Jackie) died on July 29, 2014 at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, Idaho. A Celebration of Jackie's Life and Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.at the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Pocahontas Road in Baker City. Friends are invited to join the family for refreshments which will be served following the service at the church center.
Jacqueline Gail Cole Piatt was born to Richard Edwin and Grace (Bobb) Cole at Lostine, Oregon on February 4, 1926. Jackie lived a full life. Full of tears, laughter, and much joy.
In her youth, Jackie worked as a baby sitter, sold greeting cards and hosiery to shut-ins, to earn her way through Baker High School. She worked summer vacations in Portland, Oregon at the Libby Cannery to earn money for college.
Jackie attended schools in Baker County, graduating from Baker High School Class of 1944. No less, no more is her reunion rally call. She enjoyed each and every class reunion.
In 1955 Jackie met Ralph Earl Piatt again. Wake the town, Jackie is getting married on Saturday night August 27th. They made their first home in St. Louis, Missouri. Rally around for the big send off. Jackie returned to Baker City upon the death of her husband in 1966. He died on Feb. 17th, results of an auto-train accident. Back home she became known as Aunt Jackie, volunteer, Nurse, and friend to all her acquaintances.
Jackie worked at the Shiners' Hospital in St. Louis as a nurse's aide and earned her 10 year service pin.
Upon returning to Ore. she settled in Baker City, living in the same house ever since. She went on to earn her LPN license and degree then returned to Baker to work at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Itchy feet lead Jackie to go to Boise to work for five years at St. Luke's Hospital. She then worked in Portland for a short time, returning to Baker to work at the St. Elizabeth nursing home till 1986. Receiving a 10 year service award.
After retirement, she took part time work at Cedar Manor. Upon retiring from nursing, Jackie became a foster Grandparent working with children at day care centers, head-start programs, and helped with reading at Brooklyn School. She did this until the age of 85. The kids all loved her.
Jackie loved flowers, sewing, embroidering, quilting, making latch hook rugs, known for her zucchini bread, pies, and librarian skills. Passion for reading. She was the volunteer librarian at the local Seventh-day Adventist church and school, where she has been a member since 1941. Jackie loved to travel, learn about faraway places and was a history nut. Greeting card sales were her specialty.
Jackie is survived by her brother John Rayl and sisters, Bertha Rebecca Jones, and Lennis Brown; Numerous nieces and nephews; grandnieces and nephews; and great grandnieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, father, her beloved mother and stepfather; brothers Clarence, Daniel, Donald, Leslie and Pat; sisters Dorothy Cole Pritchard, Ellen Cole Rundel; 2 brothers and 2 sisters who died in infancy.
