DAVIS,
Elsie
(Maiden Name: Borth)
CLACKAMAS – Former Grant County resident Elsie Borth Davis, 97, died Oct. 16. At her request, there were no services. Interment and burial were at Canyon City Cemetery.
Mrs. Davis was born March 1, 1915, in Langdon, N.D., the oldest of four children to Alfred and Amelia Borth. She grew up on farms in North Dakota, where she had to work hard.
With only an eighth-grade education, she worked hard to learn and understand English, since German was her native tongue.
In March 1932, she married Paul Davis. They began a life of farming, but after he got a job hauling coal and working for the highway department, they moved to Wing, N.D. In 1941, they moved to Seneca. Shortly before he retired from the Edward Hines Logging Company, they moved to Canyon City.
After his death, she moved to Vashon, Wash., then returned to Oregon, and spent her last years at Princeton Village in Clackamas.
She enjoyed reading and cooking, and would only use a recipe when she was making something for the first time. A good seamstress, she also enjoyed embroidery, knitting and crocheting, which was her favorite hobby. She has blessed many with her works of art.
She lived a long, full life of hardships and blessings.
Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy Golik of Salem and Edith Van Ness of Seattle; daughter-in-law, Carol Davis, of Florence, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her son Roy; daughter, Alice; and all eight of her siblings.
