Donald T. Lundbom, 81, of John Day, died Sept. 21 at his home, from pneumonia, following a long session with dialysis. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Driskill Memorial Chapel, followed by burial at Canyon City Cemetery and a catered lunch at the John Day Senior Center.
Mr. Lundbom was born Nov. 26, 1930, in San Diego, to Evert and Catherine Lundbom. He graduated from Sandy Union High School, in Sandy, in 1948, and served in the National Guard for eight years.
On Nov. 10, 1950, he married Blanche Packard in Gresham.
He was a business owner for 46 years, retiring in 2005. When not working at NAPA Auto Parts, he could be found gardening, tending to his orchard, beekeeping, or sitting in his recliner watching football and basketball games.
He enjoyed fishing trips to Alaska with his brother-in-law, and spent time at Happy Trails in Arizona with high school friends. Every year he looked forward to meeting his many friends at hunting camp, where he liked to tell hunting stories, play cards, and, with his love of cooking, he was head chef.
He loved spending quality time with his family.
He was a member of John Day Elks Lodge 1824, the Heritage Foundation, Shriners, and Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche of John Day; son, Ron (Sherri) Lundbom of John Day; daughter, Tootie (Jim) Cernazanu of John Day; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother Del Lundbom and sister Sue Nordlof.
