OSBORN, John Stephen


John Stephen Osborn Jr. was born on January 18, 1953 to John Sr. and Juanita Osborn in Baker City, Ore. He joined his older sister Sharon, now married to Ralph Shore. John passed away peacefully at his home on July 2, 2014 from a pulmonary embolism. Family graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 11a.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Vault interment will follow. John was born and raised in Baker County on the Osborn Hereford Century Ranch. He married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Conklin in 1972. They had four children, Michael John, Mitch Jason, Mark Jeffrey, and Marcy Jo. Michael married Kristie Patton and they have two children, Andrew and Emrie. Mitch married Kelle Powell and has three children, Kelby, Aryn, and Cayn. Mark married Brandi Myers and has three children, Sydney, Keegan, and Ava Jane. Marcy has two children, Aiden and Alyc. John spent his adult life mentoring his own children along with many others. He was a baseball and softball coach for many years. He was also an assistant scout master (Go Troop 444) for 25 years. He was involved with his children’s 4-H projects and many other various activities that they were involved with. He was a member of the local Jaycees chapter, the Lions club, and the Baker Elks, BPOE 338. John was also a 30 plus year member of the Baker Elks Drum and Bugle Corp. He was recently on the Eagle board of review for up and coming Eagle Scouts and a member of the sale committees for the Baker County Fair and the Baker County Fair Halfway. One of his most recent honors was being nominated for Man of the Year in 2010. You could see John at most of the sporting events with his white boat seat. He was one of his grandchildren’s biggest supporters and fans. He was also everyone’s familiar face at Charley’s Ice Cream Parlor. We will all miss his smiling face at the store. John was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Juanita Osborn, his grandparents, Dan and Pearl Thrasher, and Johanna & Louie Osborn, and most recently his son, Michael John Osborn.
