CARPENTER, Blair Haycock

Blair Haycock Carpenter, 76, died Sept. 3 at his home in John Day following an illness. A funeral service was held Sept. 7 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Blaine Huffman officiating, followed by interment at Rest Lawn Cemetery in John Day. Mr. Carpenter was born Feb. 29, 1936, in Cedar City, Utah, to Frank Gould and Irene (Haycock) Carpenter. He grew up in Kanab, Utah, and graduated from Kanab High School in 1954. He graduated from Eastern Oregon University in La Grande in 1989. On Sept. 17, 1955, he married Ineta Brooksby in St. George, Utah. He worked in the timber industry most of his life, managing sawmills in Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming and John Day, including John Day Lumber Co. and Grant Western Lumber Co. Before retirement, he worked as the Grant County planning director. He served in the New Jersey Cherry Hill Mission for the LDS church with his wife from 2002-2004. He enjoyed spending time with family, working on cars, reading and doing family history. He was a member of John Day City Council and Lions Club. Survivors include his wife Ineta; daughters, Rozanne (Allan) Mullin of John Day, Merrily (Gary) Hatton of Gresham, Christy (Alan) Crutchfield of Pleasant Grove, Utah; sons, Doug (Darla) of Duncan, Okla., Edwin of Bend, James (Angel) of John Day, Rodney (Rachel) of John Day, and Nathan of Newport; sister, Roma Ann Palmer of Broomfield, Colo.; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Steve of Littleton, Colo., and Rodney of Alamogordo, NM.
