John Henry Harvey, 49, of Elgin, died Jan. 30, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise after a long illness.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
John was born on Oct. 23, 1964, at San Francisco to George and Ruby (Roper) Harvey. He graduated from Wallowa High School in 1983.
John was married to his first wife, Jana Sines, on June 1, 1991, and they had their son, Jamin “Hunter” Harvey, on Sept. 2, 1992. On July 23, 2011, John married Shelly Myers, and lived with her and her two sons, Dylan and Ryan, in Elgin.
John was passionate about making a difference in other people’s lives. He worked as a helping professional in many people-oriented fields, including developmental disabilities, foster care, education, health care, mental health, in-home care and hospice. If anyone was in need you could always count on John to provide support.
John had a deep love for his family and his many friends. He also adored his pets. He was an excellent cook, enjoyed entertaining, and he was especially fond of dancing. His favorite time of the year was the holidays, when he would engage in all of these activities. John possessed a wonderful sense of humor, and had a zest for life that was often contagious.
John is survived by his mother, Ruby, and her husband, Brenhard Bryant of Wallowa; his father, George, and his wife, Leonoir Harvey of Pacifica, Calif.; his wife, Shelly Harvey; his stepsons, Dylan and Ryan Jones of Elgin; his son, Jamin “Hunter” Harvey and his son’s mother, Jana Fox of Wallowa; his brothers, Russell Hawkins of Meridian, Idaho, and Sean Harvey of Castro Valley, Calif; his sisters, Lorena Hawkins of Walla Walla, Wash., and Lenoir Chanes of Gridley, Calif.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to any people-helping organization.
