PENDLETON – Vera Maxine (Elliott) Moura Harrison, 97, formerly of John Day, died March 7. She was cared for at the end of her life by Willowbrook Terrace and St. Anthony Hospice.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pendleton, with a luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Vault interment will be at 2:30 p.m. March 15 at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.
Mrs. Harrison was born Jan. 4, 1916, at her grandmother’s home near John Day, the youngest of six children to William and Amelia Elliott. She attended country schools, and graduated from high school in 1934.
Shortly after graduation she married Joseph John Moura of John Day. The lived in John Day, where they ranched. After their daughters were born, they moved to Pendleton.
In addition to the ranch, she worked in sales, as a bookkeeper for various Pendleton businesses, and at the Umatilla Depot. She also cared for her husband after his stroke in 1962.
Survivors include her daughters, Carmen Joy Fager of Pendleton and Judy Jo (Allen) Crowner of Pasco, Wash.; grandchildren, Shari Crowner, Rob Crowner, Tim Crowner and Jodi Gray; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by all of her siblings; her husband, Joe; second husband, Lonnie Harrison in 1987; and son-in-law, Ramon Fager.
