bluemountaineagle.com 5 Mar 2013 Gerald (Arkie) “Jerry” Lewis, 84, died Feb. 28, at his Canyon City home. A graveside service was March 4 at Canyon City Cemetery. Mr. Lewis was born March 21, 1928, in Sugar Grove, Ark., to Howard and Mary (Hooper) Lewis. At age 16, he quit school to go to work. He owned his own truck, and hauled for the public until he entered the U.S. Army at age 22. He served in the Army from October 1950-October 1952, and was stationed in Germany where he achieved the rank of corporal. In 1955, he married Jessie M. Fuchs in Sebastian County, Ark. The couple moved to Oregon, settling in Canyon City, where they raised four daughters. He worked as a log truck driver for Hudspeth Lumber from 1959-1981. He enjoyed horse trading, reading books, collecting, fishing, hunting and telling stories, and was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the NRA. Survivors include his wife, Jessie Lewis; daughters, Tracy (Jerry) Bird of John Day, and Annette Lewis, Holly Davis and Dodie (John) Melland, all of Boise, Idaho; grandsons, Jayden Davis, Bridger Larman and Tristan Larman; and granddaughter, Sarah Davis. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Beau Mathew Rowland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grant County Library Building Fund, through Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S.
