Rocky Hardwick, 66, of La Grande, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2012. A Celebration of Rocky’s Life will be Thursday, Aug. 30, 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in La Grande.
Rocky as born December 16, 1945 in La Grande to his parents James Wandell “Rocky” Hardwick and Edna Mae (Schultz) Hardwick. He grew up in Baker City and graduated from Baker High School in 1964. Rocky worked for Safeway Grocery all through High School and transferred to Bend, Ore.
He married Pamela Jean Osborne on May 29, 1965 in Baker City. They lived in Bend for the first year before Rocky was transferred to La Grande with Safeway. He worked at Safeway and Albertsons for the next few years. In the early 1970’s he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement.
Rocky was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the out of doors. He enjoyed picking huckleberries, mushrooming and gold mining. He loved to spend time with his friends and family. Rocky was well known for his fly tying and gig making. He never knew a stranger and he was always willing to give a helping hand to family and friends.
Rocky’s survivors include his wife of 47 years, Pamela of La Grande; son Todd Hardwick of La Grande; Loey Mattson and her husband Stacey of La Grande; son Justin Hardwick of Portland, Ore.; brother Wandell Buck Hardwick of Island City; brother John Hardwick of Baker City; sister Sally Welter and brother in law Roger of Portland, Oreg.; sister in law Helen Hardwick of Burns, Ore.; sister in law Gloria Sheehy and brother in law Tim Sheehy of Union; sister in law Sandy Osborne of Baker City; 7 grandchildren, Cody, Karrah and Kendahl Mattson; Tylor, Trent, Travis and Taran Hardwick; 2 great grandchildren, Wyatt Hardwick and Aubrey Hardwick; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and Adam, Luke and Megan Kleck for whom he was a special uncle and father figure.
