Barbara Jean Baker, 86, of Baker City, died Jan. 15, 2013, at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Hermiston, Ore. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 18, at Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, Ore. Interment will follow at the North Powder cemetery at 1 p,m.
Barbara was born on May 23, 1926, at North Powder, she was the 10th child of 14 born to Frank Henry and Olive Adaline Davis Pearson of North Powder, Ore. She attended school and graduated high school at North Powder. Barbara is the decedent of two early pioneer families in Union County, those of her grandparents, Henry and Manerva Anderson Pearson and John Samuel and Susan Dealy Davis, who homesteaded in North Powder in 1872. She married Eldon Hobbs on Oct. 23, 1946, they had one daughter, Donna Jean. They were divorced in 1963. Barbara then married Eldon O. Baker on Dec. 31, 1965. They moved to their home in Baker where Barbara continued to live until one week prior to her passing away.
Barbara began working in 1964 at the Rosanna Dress Shop in Baker for her sister-in-law, Julia Hobbs. In 1965 she went to work in the cosmetic department at Levinger’s Rexall Drug in Baker. When Levinger’s Drug sold out to Payless, Barbara continued working for Payless and later for Rite-Aid. She continued to work full time for Rite-Aid until she retired in June, 2010.
She was an avid traveler who especially loved cruise ships. She was a league bowler, loved to play cards and spend time with family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna and husband Chuck Moeller of Hermiston, Ore. One grand daughter, Lori and her husband Nick Sarich of Weiser, Idaho. One grandson, Mark and his wife Annette Moeller of Wallowa, Ore. Four great grandchildren, Ella Moeller, Sophie Moeller, Luke Sarich and Kolt Sarich. One sister, Phyllis Fettig of North Powder and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both her husbands, five brothers, Elmer, Bus, Calvin, Pete and Mick Pearson; seven sisters, Ruby Butler, Susie Lewis, Dorothy Tiffany, Peggy Spence, Lois Campbell, Alta Coates and Grace Rowett.
