William “Bill” Bennett passed away at his home in El Monte, California on Nov. 11, 2012. A Traditional Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held in Halfway, Ore., at Pine Valley Presbyterian Church on Friday, November 23, 2012. Interment at Pine Haven Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family for a reception to be held following the service at the VFW Hall in Halfway.
Bill was 90 years young, and enjoyed every minute of it. He lived life to the fullest.
Bill was born in Leesville, La., to Clyde and Clara Bennett on Sept. 17, 1922. He was raised in New Mexico. He served in the Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.
He met his true love Laurajo Roberts in El Paso, Texas. They were married Aug. 10, 1947 and had 55 wonderful years together.
Their first home was in Texas. Their daughter Karen was born in Texas, they left Texas and moved to Baker, Ore., and their second child Linda was born. From Oregon to El Monte, California where Nancy and James were born.
In 1989, they bought a home in Halfway, Ore., and started spending their summers there.
Bill was a union carpenter and retired as a union official after 40 years. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, traveling, dancing and his Miller beer. He loved to whistle.
He was a wonderful father to his children.
He was preceded in death by his wife Laurajo in 2002.
He is survived by his daughters Karen and husband Jan Haga of Hermiston, Ore., Linda and husband Carl Miley of Lancaster, Calif., Nancy and Jim Minner of El Monte, Calif., and his son Jim and Sharon Bennett of Victorville, Calif.; grandchildren Karly Haga, Tim Voss, Jim Minner, William and Jaime Bennett; great grandchildren Dezarai Hudson, Sara and Sophie Voss, James Minner, Liam Bennett and Taylor Warman.
