Rose Anna King, 89, of John Day passed away on Nov. 17, 2012, at the Blue Mt. Hospital. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Rose Anna was born June 2, 1923, to Victor and Vera (McGarey) Bergeson in Baker City. She graduated from Baker Sr. High School in 1941. On Feb. 19, 1949, Rose Anna married Richard Nicholson O’Brien in Baker City. Richard passed away July 2.1959 in Reno, Nev. She later remarried to Leonard J King of Pendleton on June 22, 1972. Leonard passed away June 5, 1985 in Reno, Nev.
Rose Anna worked for Idaho power, the USFS and operated two small businesses.’ Rose Anna was also homemaker and a housewife in her later years.
Rose Anna’s hobbies included gardening, sewing and all sorts of arts and crafts. She most recently took up drawing and water color painting. She won a blue ribbon at the Grant County Fair for a rooster she painted in 2011. She loved a good game of chance and was extremely fond of Bingo. Collecting antiques was a passion and she saw the value in things no one else saw. She loved a good drive in the country and spent many hours doing just that in her later years around Pendleton, Ore.
Rose Anna was a volunteer for many years at the former Pendleton Community Hospital working in the gift shop and wherever she could be of service. She received an award for having over 6,000 hours of service. As the wife of a Pendleton Roundup Director, she was involved in the Hall of Fame and donated many hours to that organization.
Due to the death of her first husband she was forced to raise her son alone, get a job and move from her home. But she did that and did a great job. No greater accomplishment can be asked of anyone than to take good care of family.
Rose Anna was preceded in death by her parents Victor and Vera Bergeson; Brother George Bergeson; sister, Alice Mae Hughes; Husband Richard N. O’Brien; and her second husband, Leonard King.
She is survived by her son Richard Burke O’Brien of Prairie City; step-daughter Patricia Bryan of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
