DAVIS, Paul Eugene


bluemountaineagle.com 4 Dec 2012 Paul Eugene Davis, 94, of Long Creek, died Nov. 23 in John Day. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Mr. Davis was born Nov. 10, 1918, and was raised in the Conrad and Ledger area of eastern Montana. In 1937, he graduated from Conrad High School, where he played football. After graduation, he worked on ranches in Wyoming. The last one, the Triangle C, was a dude ranch near Dubois, Wyo. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps Jan. 1, 1942. He drove truck and worked in communications, serving in England and Europe. After World War II, he was on his way to the Pacific when Japan surrendered. He was honorably discharged at Fort Douglas, Utah. He returned to Montana and worked on his father’s farm. On Jan. 30, 1948, he married Mary Alice Coleman in Shelby, Mont. They went to Wyoming, and worked on the Triangle C; he was a hunting guide, and she cooked at hunting camp. They returned to Montana because her mother was ill. They lived on the Marias River until 1952, when he bought a place on the West Kootenai near Rexford, Mont. In 1969, they were forced to move due to construction of the Libby Dam. They bought a place near Colville, Wash., where they stayed until 1975, when they bought property near Long Creek. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary; daughter, Carol (Doug) Batten of Enterprise; son, Bill at home; grandchildren, Nathan (Karen) Batten of Oakridge, Perry (Jenera) Batten of Carson City, Nev., and Danielle Batten of Enterprise; great-grandchildren, Keith Batten and Jace Batten. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rodger; and sister, Bertha Jane. Memorial contributions may be made to the Long Creek Ambulance through Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S.
