Rose Anna King, 89, of John Day, died Nov. 17 at Blue Mountain Hospital. A memorial will be held at a later date.
Mrs. King was born June 2, 1923, to Victor and Vera (McGarey) Bergeson in Baker City. She graduated from Baker Senior High School in 1941.
On Feb. 19, 1949, she married Richard Nicholson O’Brien in Baker City. He died July 2, 1959, in Reno, Nev.
On June 22, 1972, she married Leonard J. King of Pendleton. He died June 5, 1985, in Reno.
She worked for Idaho Power, the U.S. Forest Service, and operated two small businesses. In later years, she was a homemaker. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing and arts and crafts. She recently took up drawing and watercolor painting, and won a ribbon at the Grant County fair in 2011 for her painting of a rooster. She enjoyed a good game of chance, and was extremely fond of bingo.
Collecting antiques was a passion. She saw the value in things when no one else did. She enjoyed a drive in the country and, in later years, spent many hours doing just that around Pendleton.
She volunteered for many years at the former Pendleton Community Hospital in the gift shop and wherever she could be of help. She received an award for over 6,000 hours of service. As the wife of a Pendleton Roundup director, she was involved in the hall of fame, and donated many hours to that organization.
Survivors include her son, Richard Burke O’Brien of Prairie City; stepdaughter, Patricia Bryan of Houston; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her brother, George Bergeson; sister, Alice Mae Hughes; husband, Richard N. O’Brien; and second husband, Leonard King.
