bluemountaineagle.com Nov 27, 2012 Daphne was born March 1, 1922, on the family's concord grape farm in Chautauqua County, New York. She was one of nine children born to Jay and Jennie Pattyson. Daphne enlisted in the Navy WAVES during World War II. During this time she met and married Darald A. "Andy" Andrews on December 8, 1945. Daphne gave birth to 2 boys, Arthur and Jay. She and Andy raised their boys in Coquille, Oregon, where they lived most of their married life. Daphne was an avid runner, back when running, now known as jogging, wasn't yet popular. She ran 3-4 miles a day and was written up in the Oregonian newspaper on May 22, 1969, for her pursuit of this new sport. Daphne retired from her job at Oregon State University Extension, in 1986 after 24 years of service. Daphne loved to cook and always followed her favorite recipes to the letter. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, taking them to the park for "hot dog roasting." She always wanted to go up in a hot air balloon and while residing at Blue Mountain Nursing Home, had the opportunity to "go flying up," in one. Daphne loved to dance and following the passing of her husband Andy, went with her friend Louis Prahar to many dances where they danced every dance. She and Louis traveled extensively to such places as Europe, Panama Canal, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada and many other locations throughout the U.S. She also attended many Elder Hostels, hiking the Rogue River Trail at the age of 80, with her friend Marie Cochran. She and her eldest granddaughter, Kaitlin, attended an Elder Hostel in Canada where they went "zip-lining." Daphne was 75 yrs. at the time. Daphne passed away at Elderberry House in John Day, Oregon, November 20, 2012, at the age of 90.
