EAGLETON, Tom

Man Killed at Granite The Sumpter miner, March 28, 1900 At Granite Thursday forenoon of last week, Tom Eagleton was shot and killed by Frank Turner and Al Keeton. The trouble started a week prior to the tragedy, over a game of cards, and there had been several encounters in the meantime between Eagleton and turner. Mutual acquaintances feared serious trouble and tried to square the deal, but without avail. It is reported that the dead man was unarmed when killed. Turner and Keeton were brought to Sumpter by Special Officers J. P. mcCoy and J. C.Wolley, and turned over to the sheriff of Grant county, who happened to be here on his way home from baker City with another prisioner. The party left Friday for Canyon City. The customary reports concerning the bad record and disreputable character of the prisoners are being circulated, which are always a part of such unfortunate affairs.
