(2 notices) Eagle Valley News; Richland, OR; 17 Jan 1918 ANOTHER PIONEER GONE Word was received here Tuesday of the death of Alexander J. Tarter at Weiser on Monday of this week, of ailments incident to advanced age. The remains arrived last evening and the funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 11 o'clock this morning, Rev. J. M. Johnson officating; and the body was laid to rest in Eagle Valley cemetery, where his parents, his wife and other relatives are buried. A granddaughter, Miss Loutacia Tarter, and a niece, Mrs. W. T. Bennehoff, are among the relatives residing in this section. Of obtainable we will pubish a synopsis of Mr. Tarter's life in a later issue, as he was among the first settlers of eagle Valley, living on Little Eagle Creek near the present home of Mrs. Nor aMoody when I. N. Young arrived here in 1871. Eagle Valley News; Richland, OR; 24 Jan 1918 The funeral of A. J. Tarter was held in the afternoon last Thursday instead of forenoon as first announced, so that relatives from a distance might attend. The services were well attended and the sermon by Rev. Johnson exceptionally impressive. Among other relatives of attendance were R. A. Tarter of Boise, son; Mrs. L. Lloyd of Joseph, sister; Dreyfus Tarter of Weiser, and Loutacia Tarter of New Bridge, grandchildren; Claude Officer of Halfway, nephew; and Mrs. W. T. Bennehoff of Richland, niece.
